چکیده
The study of neural plasticity and related memory functions is one the fundamental fields in anesthesiology. Understanding this issue very important both for physician - anesthesiologist-resuscitator, patient. This review literature describes structures processes central nervous system which a sense are target amnestic action sedation anesthesia medications. possibilities implicit explicit formation depending on different levels considered. Lung function testing in COPD: when everything is not so simple
Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema is a condition occurring mainly in male smokers, presenting different lung mechanics and gas exchange abnormalities than emphysema or pulmonary fibrosis alone. We report the case of an elderly man, former heavy smoker, who presented with progressive exertional dyspnea for 1 year. Lung function tests showed near normal spirometry and lung volumes but mar...
متن کامل18 Sedation and Anesthesia
The patient with a severe acute head injury, often with other bone and soft-tissue injuries, presents a complex management problem involving a large number of medical and paramedical staff. A coordinated approach is essential, with clear and frequent communication between the involved personnel on all aspects of critical care, including initial resuscitation, anesthesia, radiological imaging, s...
متن کاملIs there implicit memory after propofol sedation?
Recent evidence indicates that implicit memory may be preserved during general anaesthesia. We tested for the presence of explicit and implicit memory in patients undergoing surgical procedures with local or regional anaesthesia and sedation with propofol. Initial i.v. boluses of propofol 0.5 mg kg-1 and fentanyl 1 microgram kg-1 were administered, followed by an infusion of propofol 50 microgr...
متن کاملDopamine and Consolidation of Episodic Memory: Timing Is Everything
Memory consolidation underpins adaptive behavior and dopaminergic networks may be critical for prolonged, selective information storage. To understand the time course of the dopaminergic contribution to memory consolidation in humans, here we investigate the effect of dopaminergic medication on recall and recognition in the short and longer term in Parkinson disease (PD). Fifteen people with PD...
متن کاملIs the Universe Really so Simple?
The intriguing recent suggestion of Tegmark that the universe—contrary to all our experiences and expectations—contains only a small amount of information due to an extremely high degree of internal symmetry is critically examined. It is shown that there are several physical processes, notably Hawking evaporation of black holes and non-zero decoherence time effects described by Plaga, as well a...
